I am Mrs Toh

The Giver

Posted on: September 4, 2014

Mr Toh was off last Sunday (24/08). Yay! Slept till 1pm plus and we headed out to Gugu’s shop area to have lunch then went to find her for a while. Shortly after that, we went to Kovan to buy stuff for praying as it was the last day of the Lunar 7th month.

Reached home and went downstairs to pray with Huiyi and then went back home to prepare the stuffs for praying the next day.

Was feeling bored as it was still early when we decided to catch a movie! I wanted to watch Lucy at first but seeing some of the reviews online discouraged me. I then decided maybe we can watch The Four instead and told Mr Toh maybe we can eat dinner at Itacho if we watch at Plaza Singapura! I fasterly hustled off to shower and get ready to go out.

So Mr Toh was browsing GV’s website and saw another movie, The Giver. The trailer looked interesting so we decided to catch that instead. I asked if we need to book tickets and he said no, he asked me to guess how many tickets have been booked already. I randomly guessed 10. Mr Toh gave me a shocked look and asked how did I know that!

Him: “OK lah, since you so clever guessed correctly, we shall have Itacho for dinner!”

LOL.

Huiyi declined to go with us as she has to finish up her assignment. Poor thing.

We were rather lucky to get a cab quite fast considering the location and time. Reached PS at 9:05pm, we rushed to Itacho and was so happy to see that their last order was only at 9:30pm.

Had our fill of awesome delicious sushi and stuff. We were at the end of the meal when the last item was served. I picked a piece up with my chopsticks and Mr Toh saw something sticking out from the lobster meat. It was a thin orange strip and I thought it was carrot at first. But Mr Toh thought that was strange, why is there carrot in lobster salad sushi? So he plucked it out and kept staring at it, he thought it looked like plastic. I asked him to give it a bite, he did and confirmed it was plastic. He asked for the manager and explained to her what happened.
She went to investigate and came out shortly.
She explained that because the lobster meat came processed and packed in bags, the plastic could have been cut from the packing and accidentally got mixed in the meat. She assured us that they will be more careful in future which was what we wanted to hear. She then told us she is unable to replace the item as the kitchen has closed. We didn’t mind at all and told her we were rushing for a movie so that’s fine.
She then offered to remove the item from our bill instead.

She was very apologetic and when I was covering my mouth because of my cough, she thought I was sick at the thought of the plastic and asked if I was OK. We assured her that I’m fine.

Really awesome service from her. We weren’t expecting her to waive off that item and we were really pleased that she offered to. Two thumbs up!

This film, based on Lois Lowry’s book, tells the story of a perfect world. Everyone here is happy. When Jonas is 12 years old, he’s chosen to be the community’s Receiver of Memories. He enters into training with an old man called The Giver. From the Giver, Jonas learns about pain, sadness, war, and all the unhappy truths of the “real” world. He quickly realizes that his community is fake. Confronted with this reality, Jonas faces difficult choices about his own life and his future.

Before watching this movie, I’ve never heard of the book before and had no idea what it was about. The storyline is interesting enough, but we thought there was lots of loopholes. Meryl Streep and Jeff Bridges were awesome in their portrayal of the characters. For a while there, I thought the whole movie was gonna be in black and white, haha. But the way they used the black and white and colors to show us what the characters see were really interesting. Interesting movie but could have been much better.

Caught The November Man on 28/08 on Mr Toh’s off day! Been looking forward to this movie ever since we saw the trailer!

Absolutely loved Pierce Brosnan! He’s aged really really well and he was great in the movie! Lots of action and a twist at the end that we weren’t expecting. Liked it much better than The Giver.

It was my brother’s birthday on Sat, so we went out for dinner! Went back to Kam Jia Zhuang at AMK, though the pumpkin prawns tasted different, the food was still good! Planning to return for my birthday in October! Went to find Mr Toh after dinner when my brother dropped me off at Hougang~

Took half day off on Monday to pray as it was Mr Toh’s Grandma’s death anniversary. Then met Sis in the evening as she wanted to visit Dad and pass him her handmade mooncakes too. Really amazing how she continues to hand make mooncakes every year! She then sent us home after that, thank you Sis!

OT-ed yesterday and went to find Mr Toh after that. We then headed to 126 to meet his friends for dim sum~~ So happy I can finally eat 126 after recovering from my cough!

Mr Toh’s off today and gonna be meeting him after work to pass mooncakes to Godma & Godpa. =) I love the Mid Autumn Festival.
